Beat the Summer Heat and Let Your Laptop Chill Out

Summer is definitely in full swing as we are about to enter the first (and last) August of 2009! If you own a laptop (as most computer using people do these days) you know that the more you use your machine, the hotter it gets. Unlike humans, machines are not yet able to sweat to cool off. However, machines just like humans do operate better at cool temperatures. Thanks to our friends over at lifehacker.com and chillu.com, check out this cooling rack that you can make at home on a budget. Namaste -Yogi G-

Serato gets Multi Decked

"About 3 months ago the boys over in Auckland took a small step forward with their ubiquitously conservative software, Serato Scratch. Along with a host of bug fixes and tweaks version 1.9 added 6 samplers, and the ability to record directly into those samplers from a MIC" MORE

Interview with A-Trak

Here's an interview with A-Trak from about a year ago explaining stuff like how he got his roots in hip-hop, the direction that he's moving in, and why. For those of you who aren't familiar with A-Trak, he won the DMC world championship at age 15, and he's currently the producer for Kid Sister. He toured with Kanye as his DJ for a few years, and I think he's still his DJ but I don't know because now Kanye is singing about this and that, and I don't know if he brings a DJ to his new style of shows. He might. Who knows? A-Trak's brother is Dave 1 from Chromeo.

Anyway, I think it's a good interview that shows how you can start as one thing and adapt it into something completely different while maintaining your roots and keeping it fresh.

The Funky Drummer

Since ?uestlove is the DJ of the month, I figured that I'd post an entry showing how he is probably the drummer of the month. This video was taken of him by someone else without him knowing. He can keep the beat while eating sandwiches, texting, and tweeting. He truly is the funky drummer.

That brings me to my next point. Questo has been releasing various mixtapes entiled the Funky Drummer Volume 1, The Funky Drummer Volume 2, and so on. He's currently at volume 3, and I uploaded that for your enjoyment. All of the songs on the mixtapes are songs that he has been a part of in one way or another. If there's interest in the other earlier mixtapes, I can definitely post them on the blog. Hope you can dig it. Here's "The Funky Drummer Vol. 3":

Scratching App for your I-Phone!!

What up everyone. It's the scratchaholic, Kanga, bringing you another cool tid-bit on scratching. I saw BFish's post on the application for beat production. Well, of course I had to see if there was a scratching app and low and behold there is! Peep the MixMeister. It uses any sound file off of your I-Phone's library. Check out the video on their site! Just don't forget that vinyl will always be the most original. Respect!!

Reflection Eternal (Hi-Tek & Talib Kweli) - Back Again

Whats good y'all? It's BFish again, this time with a fresh video of Reflection Eternal's new single. Talib is maybe getting a little bit ahead of himself with the whole 'you can like rap again' lyric, but it is definitely good to see these two cats back in action. Talib and Tek will be repping their new stuff at Rock the Bells, so if you get a chance, check 'em out.

Hope you enjoy it the video.

Peace,
