RIP DJ AM
As I'm sure a lot of you already know, DJ AM passed away yesterday. AM had been gaining more and more attention in his last years. He released the Fix Your Face mixtape with Blink 182's Travis Barker last winter, and shortly afterward he survived a plane crash that killed everyone else on the plane aside from Travis Barker. It's a tremendous loss for the DJing community, and he will be greatly missed.
Type AM in to your Serato BPM to deny trainspotters in memory of DJ AM. Here's the Fix Your Face Mixtape that he did with Travis Barker.

Dam-Funk opening up for De La Soul
">
Yo guys, most of you probably know that De La Soul is coming to higher ground tomorrow night, and opening up for them is Dam-Funk. Dam-Funk is signed by stonethrow records and they are sick. They are a mostly instrumental band instead of hip-hop but they have some sick stuff. If your going to the De La Soul concert be sure to get there early so you can see Dam-Funk holding it down.

Are the days of the Superproducer over?
"There are no guarantees in today’s music business. And record labels no longer have bundles of cash to throw at the big guns. Instead, they are scouring the Internet for younger, hungrier (i.e., cheaper) sources for beats, trying to get more bang for their ever-dwindling bucks." To Read more on this Click Here

Snoop Dogg on SportsCenter
Now if you don't know, I am quite the sports fan. The other day when I had it dialed to ESPN, and this was what came across my screen. Despite disliking both Michael Vick (who just signed with Philly) or USC, still a good video.

THE LAB BLOG: UNDER CONSTRUCTION
If you haven't noticed, your boy BFish (me) is currently revamping the blog. I wasn't feeling the regular template so I thought I would mess around with it. Any feedback or ideas would be greatly appreciated! Leave a comment on this posting, and help me pimp it out. Also, I was bored and threw that picture together, hope you all enjoy it.
I look forward to hearing from you guys.

Michael Jackson Remixes
So I was over on Nah Right, and they just threw up this post about MJ Remix Suite 1. Pretty interesting. A little overdone if you ask me, but you can check out some of the sample songs over on the Nah Right post. I would link you directly, but I can't just shamelessly rip off someone else's blogging. It's shady!
Peace,

Jay Electronica - Dear Moleskine
What's good everyone? On Wednesday I managed to get out to the Mos Def concert at Higher Ground. The opening band Rough Francis was FRESH, with a throwback 70's punk rock feel to it, which was very cool. And while Mos Def's set was really interesting (lots of percussion and Michael Jackson tributes) the part of the show that stood out to me the most was the set by Jay Electronica. It was really impressive. He did a lot of talking to the audience, which gave it a much more personal feel. It wasn't just a hip hop set, it was a performance. He also dropped some lyrics over J Dilla's Gobstopper beat, which was fire. He has a very unique sound, and really great production. Not to mention I got to meet him over at the bar, genuinely nice guy. Above is a part of his new music video that is coming out, the back beat and the cinematography are fresh. P.S., get it Hi-Def for best results.
Enjoy.

R.I.P. Baatin
For those of you who aren't hip to Baatin, he was one of the original three members of Slum Village, J Dilla's original group. He passed away Saturday, at the tender age of 35. This leaves only T3 as the last remaining original member. The current Slum Village lineup also includes Elzhi and Illa J (Dilla's brother.) A major part of the Detroit hip-hop scene, Baatin will be missed. Be sure to grab SV's Fan-Tas-Tic (Vol. 1) - its a staple of any hip hop collection.
Rest Easy, Baatin.
